José Bassit casts a "humanitarian gaze" upon the world. After many years navigating the realm of journalism, with numerous publications in high-circulation newspapers and magazines, the Brazilian photographer chose to pursue his own path in photography.

Each of José Bassit's works seeks to "humanize the planet," ranging from a personal perspective on São Paulo to the poetic capture of a fallen dead leaf on the ground. The series "Autumn," for instance, brings together images of various types of dried leaves, a project born during his short recovery strolls following a delicate surgical procedure.

His photographic fascination also delves into everyday life, nature, and traditional religious festivals, a subject that led to the publication of the book "Imagens Fiéis" (Faithful Images) in 2003. The photographer traversed seven Brazilian states between 1998 and 2003, documenting diverse popular religious manifestations.

Several works by José Bassit, an admirer of the Spanish photographer Cristina Garcia Rodero's work, are part of the collections of institutions such as the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo and the São Paulo Museum of Art.
