Valdemir Cunha

Valdemir Cunha has had a distinguished 20-year career in the editorial market, with key roles at prominent publishing houses such as Azul, Abril, and Peixes, where he served as both photo editor and executive editor. His work has taken him to over 80 countries, producing compelling photojournalistic features for various magazines.

As a documentary photographer, Cunha has traversed the entire Brazilian territory, with a particular focus on the country’s most remote areas, creating an extensive inventory of Brazil’s human geography. His seminal book, *Brasil Invisível,* which delves into the formation of the Brazilian people, was met with critical acclaim and sold out within a year.

Until 2020, Cunha’s photography was predominantly directed towards magazine publications and a few personal projects. However, he founded his own publishing company, Origens, to publish his books. To date, he has published 14 titles, five of which have already sold out.

Since 2016, Cunha has transitioned into the art market, producing limited-edition photobooks that reframe his documentary work with a more conceptual approach. This shift has allowed him to explore new perspectives on his chosen themes, adding depth and nuance to his already rich body of work. His current focus on art photography continues to resonate with collectors and art enthusiasts alike, cementing his legacy as a visionary in capturing the unseen facets of Brazilian culture and landscapes.
